Joseph H. Vogelwede, 99, Decatur, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Woodcrest Extended Care.
Joseph was born Sept. 21, 1914, in Adams County to the late Bernard L. and Edith (Green) Voglewede. He married the Helen Gay Sept. 11, 1939; she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1984.
Joseph was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43. Joe retired in 1975 from General Electric in Decatur after 32 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Survivors include a grandson, Paul (Debbie) Baker; two granddaughters, Karrie (Mark) Hamilton and Kristine (John) Everett; two sisters Kathryn Hammond and Patricia Ginter, all of Decatur; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria “Jo” Baker; a grandson, Stephen F. Baker; two sisters, Lillian and Harriet and a brother Ed.
Visitation is from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 p.m.
A 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will also be Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to St. Joseph Catholic School.
