Joseph E. Kipfer

    Joseph E. Kipfer, 90, Bluffton, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Christian Care Retirement Community.
    Joseph was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Adams County, the son of the late Aaron and Mary (Steffen) Kipfer. He married Marie E. Gerber Jan. 19, 1947, in Bluffton; she passed away Jan. 31, 2004.
    He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Joe graduated in 1942 from Kirkland High School, where he was a member of the Kangaroo basketball team. He especially enjoyed getting together with his family and singing. He also enjoyed gospel music, especially listening to the local quartet, Psalm 100. He had a love for cats. Joe was very giving of himself and his resources, and will also be remembered for he and his wife’s love of flower.
    He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1946.
    Surviving are a brother, Aaron Kipfer Jr. of Bluffton; a sister, Eunice Steffen of Bluffton; and several nieces and nephews.
    Preceding Joe in death were two sisters, Dorothy Schladenhauffen and Mahilda Kipfer; two nieces and two nephews.
    Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bluffton North Apostolic Christian Church. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.
    Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. St. Rd. 124 in Bluffton, and one hour prior to service at the church.
    Preferred memorials are to Christian Care Retirement Community's Good Samaritan Fund.
