John E. Isch, 71, of Decatur, passed away on January 4, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
John was born on January 26, 1939, in Adams County, Indiana, to Ralph Isch and Opal (Walters) Isch Lillich.
On October 26, 1958, he married Lois J. Archinal.
John was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur and served on many boards of the church. He was active in Big Brothers, was the community service supervisor for the Adams County Jail, and was an avid golfer.
John enjoyed being around kids and young people. He thoroughly enjoyed going to high school sports activities and, for 52 years, he never missed a home football game. He was on the chain gang/line crew for 52 years and loved doing it.
He is survived by his wife, Lois J. Isch of Decatur; a son, John J. (Carol) Isch of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Rebecca L. (Larry) Hormann of Hoagland; four brothers, Fred R. Isch, Hubert (Roberta) Isch, and Larry Isch, all of Decatur, and Dave (Sue) Isch of Winterhaven, Florida; a stepbrother, Fredrick “Bud” Lillich of Celina, Ohio; three grandchildren, April Isch of Cincinnati, Ohio; Kristin Hormann of Hoagland; and Pvt. Riley Hormann of Fort Bliss, Texas.
John was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul Lillich; a stepbrother; and two stepsisters.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to services at the church.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Zion United Church of Christ, with Rev. Randy Rossman officiating.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
