Berne Mayor William McKean has named James Beitler as the city attorney to top a list of appointments announced this week by the incoming mayor.
Beitler, a longtime attorney in Berne, is a partner with David Baumgartner in the law office of Baumgartner and Beitler. He formerly served as city attorney under the tenure of Mayor Blaine Fulton. He will take over the position from Bob Biberstein, who served for more than six years in the administration of former mayor John Minch.
The city law director serves as the pleasure of the mayor.
In other appointments announced by McKean, John Crider will take over as chief of the Berne Volunteer Fire Department from former chief Bill Grimm. Tim Taylor was reappointed by McKean as chief of police.
City department heads will remain in their positions, including workforce manager Kurt Dailey, street superintendent Gary Nussbaum, sewage superintendent Terry Kongar, water department superintendent John Crider, sanitation supervisor Gregg Moser, compost/mosquito control superintendent Jay Sprunger, and planning director/storm water superintendent Shannon Smitley,
Becky Sprunger was retained as the mayor's administrative assistant.
