Jobless rate remains at historic low

April 22, 2014

Unemployment in Adams County continues to remain near historically low levels.
The monthly jobless report issued Monday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development showed local unemployment during March was 5.7 percent, the lowest in the six years for which the Democrat has kept such records.
The March figures reflected a .3 percent drop in unemployment from the previous month and stood at 2.4 percent below the county’s jobless rate from one year earlier. Five years ago, in March of 2009, Adams County’s unemployment rate was at 14.3 percent.
The county ended 2013 with a jobless rate of 5.4 percent, then started the new year with two consecutive months of mild increases prior to March’s report.
