August 20, 2014

Unemployment in Adams County continues to be at its lowest levels in more than six years, according to the monthly jobless report issued Tuesday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Tuesday’s report set the county’s jobless rate for July at 5.1 percent, down slightly from June’s 5.3 percent reading and well below the 7.4 percent jobless rate one year earlier.
The county’s unemployment rate bottomed out in April at a miniscule 4.9 percent, followed by two successive months of mild increases.
Tuesday’s report showed 792 members of the county’s total workforce of 15,437 remained without jobs last month.
July jobless rates in surrounding counties included Wells, 5.5 percent, Jay, 5.3, Huntington, 6.7; Allen, 6.1; Whitley, 5.3 and Blackford, 6.5 percent.
