Jo Ellen Donaghy

    Jo Ellen (Spann) Donaghy, 66, of Decatur and formerly of Bluffton, passed away at 11:27 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at her home. She was surrounded by her family when she passed away. 
    Born on September 25, 1944, in Fort Wayne to Walter Henry and Florence Amelia (Scott) Halt, they preceded her in death.
    Jo married J. Alan Spann in Liberty Mills, Indiana, in 1965; he preceded her in death on March 16, 2003. She married Larry L. Donaghy in Decatur on February 19, 2006; he survives.
    A 1962 graduate of Larwill High School, Jo was trained as a beautician at the Warner Beauty College in Fort Wayne and worked as a hairdresser for 20 years. 
    Jo owned and operated The Party Gallery in Bluffton from 1994 to 2007. Her career also included working at WNUY Radio Station in Bluffton, J & R Products, and Adams Memorial Hospital and as the service secretary at Hiday Motors in Bluffton.
    Jo was a member of Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren in rural Decatur and a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Bluffton. She enjoyed bowling for many years. 
    Other survivors include two daughters, Carla Baumgartner (Tim) of Bluffton and Sara Weir (T.J.) of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, Mark Donaghy (Tracy) of Decatur and Matt Donaghy (Nicole) of Columbia, South Carolina; one stepdaughter, Mary Ann Zeigler (Al) of Kennesaw, Georgia; two sisters, Nancy Tooker (Merle) of Shipshewana and Sally Moore of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, John Halt (Andrea) of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
    She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Su Ellen Platter, in 2001. 
    Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Thoma/Rich, Chaney, and Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Calling will also be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Friday at the church.
    A service celebrating Jo’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Jay Carter officiating.
    Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery of Whitley County.
    Preferred memorials are to the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren's building fund.
