BERNE—In a game that took nearly four hours to complete due to lightning, it was the final seven minutes that made the difference as the Jets scored twice to seal a win in Berne.
For the first time in five seasons, Adams Central knocked off the Starfires of South Adams in football with a win Friday at Starfield, 19-7.
With 3:32 left in the second quarter, lightning struck forcing a delay from the officials who cleared the teams from the field. Nearly two hours later at 9:25, play resumed without a halftime.
Both squads desperately needed a win with the Stars toting a four-game slide and the Jets losing three straight.
It was also AC coach Michael Mosser's first win against SA in his coaching tenure and his team shined in the fourth quarter.
Heading into the final frame, the score was knotted at 7-7 with the Jets possession on their own 30-yard line. The Jet running backs began to wear down the Star defense with an impressive drive that went 70 yards down field with runs from senior back Kurt Blake for 16 yards, Kyle Baker for 14, and Blake for another nine. Three plays later, sophomore Carter Sharp got involved blazing the Starfire defense for 16 on a big third and nine play from the 18-yard line to set up Blake eventually on a five-yard romp for six and Adams Central's first lead of the game at 13-7 after a failed kick.
"We need to see those guys in tandem running the football," stated coach Mosser. "Kurt and Carter have to be able to run the football for us to be successful."
The Starfires had a chance to respond starting from their own 37-yard line on the next possession but a botched hand-off resulted in a fumble recovered by Koty Frauhiger giving AC the ball back with good field position.
Sharp had two more big runs for the Jets including a 15-yard run on second and 18 and then a few plays later a 27-yard rush to the left sideline that he nearly dove in for but the officials ruled him down on the one. Senior QB Dalton Combs would punch in the sneak on the next play.View more articles in:
