Jets take second at Southwood

April 15, 2012

Tonnner

WABASH—Adams Central's Troy Tonner shattered the Southwood Relays record in the discus throw Friday night powering out a 160'0.5 toss and the Jets finished second overall in the team standings with 89.50 points behind Eastbrook's 105.
Tonner did what he has been doing all season long in the discus and that is easily demolishing the rest of the field. The former record of the Southwood event was 159'1. Tonner's new record Friday night was almost an amazing 20 feet longer than the second place finisher.
Perhaps the most exciting event of the night was the boys 4 x 400 relay as Adams Central nosed out county rival South Adams by a mere .03 of a second for first place. The AC team of Tonner, Alex Byerly, Ben Lehman, and Kyle Fawcett was clocked at 3:33.96 while the South Adams foursome (names not available) came in at 3:33.99.
Tonner also pronounced himself as champion of the shot put competition tossing the iron ball 49'0 while second place was 46'6.
Adams Central claimed victory in the sprint medley with Colby Cauble, Lane Harrison, Byerly and Fawcett posting a 1:38.35 time. South Adams picked up five points with a fourth place spot in the event.
Southwood finished third in the team standings with 71 points followed by South Adams at 67, Maconaquah 53, Lewis Cass 50.5, Pioneer 39, and Northfield 30.
Byerly took third for the Jets in the 100 dash at :11.96 after initially qualifying for the finals with a :12.19 time.
