Jets sweep past Starfires

    BERNE—Adams Central got back on the winning track in volleyball Thursday night traveling to the Stardome to extract a 25-17, 27-25, 25-14 triumph from the South Adams Starfires in ACAC competition.
    The Jets, now 12-7 on the year and 4-2 in ACAC play, rode the hitting of Hali Wendel who finished with 19 kills, two aces, two blocked shots and 12 digs. Bess Fiechter also had a big night for the Jets with 17 digs and eight kills while Alyssa Keller played her usual steady game with 26 assists, 12 digs, three kills, and two aces. Sarah Soldner led the Jets in digs with 19 and added a pair of assists to go with three kills.
    Other Jet contributers included Abby Snyder with eight digs, four assists, two aces, and a kill, Alexa Baller with seven digs and an ace, Chelsie Eads with four kills and digs and one solo block, and Jenae Blackburn with one ace and dig.
    South Adams was led by Kara DeLong with four kills, three blocks, and 15 digs, Alyssa Bluhm had 13 assists, three kills and five digs, and Taylor Farlow had seven kills, three blocks, and 15 digs.
    Adams Central stayed perfect at 6-0 in reserve play against ACAC foes with a 25-17, 25-21 triumph over the Starfires.
    The Jets, now 21-5 overall, were topped by Abby Lichtle's seven assists, five kills, four aces, and three digs while Sam Fisher contributed 12 assists, six digs, and two kills and aces. Liz Luginbill finished with three kills, seven digs and two aces, Jessica Ripley had six digs and an ace, Jenny Schultz slammed down five kills and had the only solo block for AC, Kaitlyn Carroll had four digs, and Whittney Baller scooped up five digs.
    AC will host a JV Invitational Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Adams Central's varsity will be in action Tuesday night at Heritage in the annual ACAC tournament at 7:15 p.m.
    Both varsity teams will play in next week’s ACAC Girls Volleyball Tournament, slated for Heritage High School on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and Thursday, Oct. 7.
    Adams Central finished second to Leo during the regular season in ACAC volleyball.
