MONROE—A comeback rally in the second half fell short for the Adams Central girls basketball team Tuesday night as New Haven survived a quick AC blitz to gain a 46-33 non-conference win at the Hangar.
New Haven had led by 13 midway through the third period at 31-18  before the Jets, now 2-6 on the season, started to chip away at the Bulldog lead. Madison Carroll and Bess Fiechter scored baskets, the latter coming on an offensive rebound of a missed free throw.
The teams swapped a pair of points to end the period at 33-24  but a 7-1 opening of the final stanza had New Haven coach Gary Cobb concerned, especially after Fiechter scored on back-to-back Bulldog turnovers. Those buckets made the score 35-31 with 4:47 to play but New Haven then put a lid on the AC hoop outscoring the Jets 11-2 for the rest of the game.
The win moved New Haven to 4-5 on the season.
In the junior varsity contest, New Haven captured a 38-33 victory.
