INDIANAPOLIS — Too many falls given up were the problem for Adams Central Saturday in the tough Warren Central Super Dual as the Jets went 2-3, losing just 35-30 to No. 14 Warren Central and 39-38 to Ben Davis. No. 6 (Coaches' poll) Roncalli stopped the Jets 49-19.
The Jets shut out Howe 69-6 and blanked Northwestern 81-0.
Adams Central stalwarts Derek Roe at 132, Cody Walburn at 120, Ben Pfister at 182 and Zeke Schultz at 152 all went unbeaten on the day.
In his annual battle with fourth-rated Levi Moss of Ben Davis, Roe hit a key first period nearfall after a reversal and held on for a 9-7 victory. Roe is rated No. 8 at 132 in the latest individual poll.
In the meet with Ben Davis, both teams won five matches, but Davis had six falls, including three of the final four matches, to take the narrow win.
Walburn opened the meet with a 16-1 tech fall over Steve Walker. Derek Ellinger fell at 126, 6-3, to Mikhail Randall, then Roe won. Later, Schultz pinned Tanner Wall in 3:34, and Chantz Luginbill took out Gage Norris in 3:47 at 160. Alex Bollenbacher accepted a forfeit at 182 for the Jets and Ben Pfister pinned Ellis Johnson in just 1:07.
The Jets are now 27-5 going into Saturday's ACAC Wrestling Tournament, slated for Adams Central at 9 a.m. The Jets are regular-season ACAC champs with a 7-0 record.
