Jets to host Eastside; events slated at BHS

    Adams Central will host Eastside in a football scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 12,  at 6 p.m. while Bellmont will play host to Jay County and South Adams will travel to Norwell.
    Admission will be $2 at Adams Central. All-sport passes will be sold at this event, it was noted by athletic officials.
    Admission at Bellmont will be a food item, or $2 will the proceeds going to the St. Mark’s United Methodist Food Pantry.
    On Saturday, at 9 a.m., the boys and girls varsity soccer jamborees will be held at the Bellmont Soccer Stadium. Several area teams are involved in the event, will will be held most of the day.
    Bellmont will open its football season under new coach Larry Getts on Friday, Aug. 19, at Woodlan while Adams Central will travel to Blackford and South Adams will host Winchester in a renewing of that rivalry.
    Also at Adams Central on Saturday, the Adams Central Football Mothers' Club will conduct its annual chicken barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Adams Central Cafetorium.
    Both dine-in and carry-out meals will be available.
    The meal will consist of one-half of a Nelson's chicken, baked beans, choice of slaw, applesauce or potato salid, roll, dessert and a drink. Cost will be $7.
    Tickets may be purchased from any  Adams Central football player, cheerleader, or team manager, as well as by contacting Marie Combs  at 692-1490, or Jodi Voirol at 223-5559.
    There will be a limited No. of tickets available at the door.
    At 5:30 p.m. on that date, the club will conduct its annual worker auction. All junior and senior football players, managers and cheerleaders will be auctioned to the highest bidder for four hours of labor.
    All proceeds will go to the football and cheerleaders mothers' club funds.
