Jerry R. Brandt

    Jerry R. Brandt, 68, of rural Decatur, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Jerry was born on August 28, 1943, in Decatur, to Dale L. and Alvina P. (Butler) Brandt, Sr. 
    On February 25, 1967, he married Barbara J. Miller.
    Jerry was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He worked at Navistar in Springfield, Ohio, from 1964-2000. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur and VFW Geneva Post 6751, and was also a life member of the Blue Creek Conservation Club.
    He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brandt of Decatur; three sons, Tony Brandt, Terry Brandt and Troy Brandt, all of Decatur; a daughter, Vicky (Lyle) Shaffer, of Decatur; a sister, Shirley (Joe) Cowans, of Rockport, Indiana; four brothers, Dale L. Brandt, Jr. of New Haven; Keith L. Brandt of Fort Wayne; Richard E. Brandt, of Villages, Fla.; and Robert W. Brandt, of Bluffton; and four grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
    An 11 a.m. funeral liturgy will be held on Thursday, April 5, also at the funeral home, with Father Stephen Colchin  officiating.
    Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military gravesite rites by American Legion Color Guard Post 43.
    Preferred memorials are to ACCF Angel Cancer Fund.
