Jerry L. Amweg

    Jerry Lee "Monk" Amweg, 65, of Ohio City, Ohio, went to be with his Lord at 6:55 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert, Ohio.
    Jerry was born June 18, 1947, in Van Wert, to the late Daniel Hamilton and Louella Gwendolyn (Seger) Amweg.
    He married CarieAnn Jo Bellinger on June 3, 2003; she survives in Ohio City.
    Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War as a Spec 4, serving from April 1968-May 1969. Jerry had worked at Fleetwood and been a member of the Ohio City Fire Department and EMS. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178 of Van Wert. Jerry enjoyed fishing, arrow head hunting, Indian powwows, and his many animals.
    Among survivors are his son, Daniel (Amanda) Amweg of Grover Hill; two daughters, Kathy (Pat) Wilhelm of Decatur and Payton Eloise Amweg of Ohio City; two step-daughters, Nicole (Pete) Boaz of Van Wert and Jody Kline; brother, Jacky L. (Christina) Amweg of Ohio City; three grandchildren, Brett (Tequila) Wagner of Berne, Kasey Wagner of Linn Grove, Ind., and Jace Hirschy of Decatur; three step-grandchildren, Breann, Brittney, and Bregan Boaz; great-grandson, Zhayne Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.
    Jerry was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosella Krick and Peggy Eileen Miller.
    Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Simon Young officiating.
    Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City, with graveside military rites by the combined honor guard of VFW and American Legion Posts in Van Wert.
    Preferred memorials are to Jerry's daughter, Payton Amweg.
