Jean Lautzenheiser, 85, of Berne, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Swiss Village Retirement Community.
She was born on Sunday, July 5, 1925, in Adams County to Elmer and Minnie Burk Stuber.
Mary Jean was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Adams County and a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant.
She was employed at the former General Electric plant in Decatur and was an aide at Trinity Catholic School and an aide and cafeteria helper at South Adams Schools. She was an organist at Redeemer Lutheran Church, a volunteer at Chalet Village in Berne, a volunteer at Et Cetera Ecke, and a board member of the Riverside Cemetery Association.
She married Robert L. Lautzenheiser on February 1, 1946, in Jefferson Township of Adams County. Robert passed away on November 30, 1999.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Lautzenheiser (and wife Gretchen) of Terre Haute; Rodney Lautzenheiser (and wife Janie) of Berne; and Rex Lautzenheiser (and wife Cheryl) of Valrico, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Rick (Sue) Sprunger and Mrs. Larry (Cindy) Sprunger, both of Berne; one sister, Christeen Loy of Bryant; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Minnie Burk Stuber; a brother, Robert Stuber; and two grandchildren
Arrangements are being handled by Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 1-8 p.m. today and 9-10:30 a.m on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Swiss Village Retirement Center, Berne.
A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at Swiss Village Retirement Center at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011, with Pastor Joe Gerkin and Pastor Robert Abner officiating.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Geneva.
Memorials are to Redeemer Lutheran Church or to the Heart Club of Adams County.
