James R. Borchers, 91, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Christian Care Center in Bluffton.
Jim was born on November 17, 1920, in Rockford, Ohio, to the late Glenn D. and Sophia M. (Schiller) Borchers.
On August 28, 1947, he married Wanda G. (Priddy) Borchers; she survives in Decatur.
Jim was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and a lifelong spiritual leader. He served the local Christian community in various capacities throughout his life.
He worked as an Insurance Salesman for Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company retiring in 1985. After retirement, he worked for Haggard & Armes and Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home.
He proudly served his country during World War II in the European Theater with the United States Air Force 306 Airborne Division, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal.
Among survivors are a son, Jeff (Rene) Borchers, and daughter, Judy (Barry) Secaur, both of Decatur; a brother, Glenn; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Visitation is from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Michael Heinbaugh officiating.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, with Military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Preferred memorials are to St. Mark’s UMC Food Pantry.
