Jail property donation offer confirmed

June 11, 2014

“I just want to make it clear that the land would be donated by the Porter Family Foundation.”
The speaker was Jean Porter Brune, and the property under discussion is a parcel of land on the southern edge of Decatur across from the Woodcrest Retirement Community between Mercer Avenue and the St. Marys River, disclosed last week as a potential site for a new county jail at a meeting of the Adams County Commissioners.
The statement from Brune at Monday’s commission meeting drove home the point that, if selected, the new location would not cost the county additional money to purchase real property for the construction of a new Adams County jail; a major savings over the previously selected site along a section of 1st Street south of Monroe Street in downtown Decatur.
