Jack F. Whitacre Jr.

    Jack F. Whitacre Jr., 59, of Berne, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Chalet Village Health Care Center in Berne.
    He was born on Tuesday, October 2, 1951, in Bryant to Jack and Mildred Whitacre. His father is deceased; his mother lives in Berne.
    He married Patsy Phillips, who preceded him in death in December of 2008.
    Mr. Whitacre graduated from Bryant High School in the Class of 1970.
    Mr. Whitacre was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam.
    Mr. Whitacre drove a tractor-trailer truck for North American Van Lines in Fort Wayne.
    He was also affiliated with Keen's Martial Arts Academy in Decatur and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
    Mr. Whitacre attended Faith Alive Ministries in Decatur.
    Other survivors are one son, Aaron Whitacre (and wife Layne) of Decatur; one brother, Ernie Whitacre (and wife Norma) of Bryant; two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Carol) Schabacker of Ossian and Mrs. Cliff (Jo) Moser of Portand; one grandson, Ethan Whitacre of Decatur; one granddaughter, Kahley Whitacre of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
    A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, in Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva, with interment in Gravel Hill Cemetery,  Bryant.
    Friends and family will gather to share and remember from 6-8 p.m. today, September 27, 2011, in the funeral home.
    Preferred memorials are to the funeral home to help with expenses.
