J. Alvin Buchanan

    J. Alvin Buchanan, 73, Willshire, Ohio, passed away at 10:53 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at his residence.
    He was born Monday, Dec. 2, 1940, in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of the late Claude and Virginia (Eley) Buchanan. He married the late Helen P. Van Over April 23, 1961, in the Southside Church of Christ located in Fort Wayne; she passed away July 25, 2011.
    Alvin was a member of Fort Recovery Church of Christ and a former member of Willshire Sportsman Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening.
    He had been employed by Dolco Packaging in Decatur for 25 years, and with Acrux Investigating in Van Wert, Ohio as a security guard for 13 years.
    Surviving are two daughters, Lynette Hirschy and Louise Buchanan, both of Willshire; two sisters, Vivian (Jack) Gray of Vero Beach, Fla. and Shirley (Norman) Huffman of Celina, Ohio; a brother, George Buchanan of Panama; three grandchildren, Sillena and Ellicia Hirschy, and Lauren Buchanan; and three great-grandchildren, Paige, Braxton and Havanna Hirschy.
    Preceding him in death was a daughter, Lori Ann Buchanan.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, with Keith Enterline officiating. Interment will follow in the Willshire Cemetery.
    Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday, also in the funeral home.
    Preferred memorials are to Fort Recovery Church of Christ.
