Irene Halikowski, 89, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Decatur, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at her daughter’s residence.
She was born on March 5, 1923, in Poland, to the late Andrew and Zofia Zdrada.
She married Stanislaw Halikowski; he preceded her in death in March of 1984.
She immigrated to the United States from Poland in 1951 with her husband and three of their five children. She became an American citizen on October 21, 1994.
Irene worked as a homemaker and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, in Decatur, where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
She is survived by four sons, Henry (Jane) Halikowski of Glendale, Ariz.; George (Debbra) Halikowski of Carefree, Ariz.; Michael (Joan Burd) Halikowski of Indianapolis; and John (Ruth) Halikowski of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Harriet Rumschlag of Fort Wayne; special friend, Catherine Nowicki of Fort Wayne; son-in-law, Tom Rumschlag of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by several family members in Poland.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Community, 4120 S. Webster St., Fort Wayne.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or to Holy Redeemer Catholic Community.
