Incentives added for Swiss theme in Berne

    What began as a controversial ordinance for some business owners and councilors in Berne is one step closer to being a “recommendation” following an open work session held Monday evening by Berne City Council.
    A handful of residents attended a meeting of the ordinance committee and city council members in an effort to fine tune the ordinance that in its original form would have required Berne businesses adopt a “Swiss theme.”        Originally presented as a mandate, causing many ruffled feathers during the Dec. 9 city council meeting, the ordinance now reads as a recommendation – complete with incentives – to any business willing to stay with or adopt the prevalent Berne Swiss theme.
