‘I am a blessed, humble man’

February 26, 2013

Just nine days after suffering a near-fatal heart attack, Berne City Council President Gregg Sprunger was in his usual seat Monday evening as the council met for its regularly-scheduled meeting.
Sprunger appeared slightly pale and spoke softly, but nonetheless contributed to several spirited discussions throughout the evening.
At the conclusion of the hour-long session, however, the veteran councilman attempted to choke back tears — several times unsuccessfully — as he thanked those who had helped in and prayed for his recovery. "I wasn't sure I'd be here tonight," Sprunger began, "but I am a blessed and humble man."
