Hunter dies after life support ends

November 4, 2013

A Decatur man, Timothy E. Bowers, 32, died Sunday evening at Lutheran Hospital following a hunting accident Saturday afternoon.
According to information provided by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources which investigated the accident, Bowers was deer hunting from an elevated stand in a tree and fell approximately 16 feet to the ground. He was said to be hunting with a friend but at the time of the accident was by himself. When he did not return to meet his friend at an arranged time, the friend, unidentified by IDNR officials, went looking for Bowers.
The friend found Bowers in a field at 9:37 p.m. in the 4500 east block of C.R. 450N. It was determined that Bowers had suffered a severe neck injury in the fall that had paralyzed him.
Lutheran Air helicopter was summoned to the scene and transported Bowers to Lutheran Hospital in serious condition. Bowers requested on Sunday evening that he be removed from life support and he was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m.
IDNR officials said the incident remains under investigation.
