A blaze at the home of Lois Bleeke, 6158 N. Piqua Rd., sent firefighters from Decatur and Preble scrambling into action Monday as they attempted to save the home.
Decatur firefighters were dispatched at 11:24 a.m. after passersby witnessed smoke coming from the home.
When firefighters arrived it was uncertain whether Bleeke was inside the residence and a search and rescue effort was launched, according to a spokesperson for the department. Within minutes Decatur police, who were also on-scene, received a call from Bleeke, who stated that the house was empty, allowing firefighters to concentrate solely on the growing fire.
