Hillis M. Colchin, 91, of Decatur, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Adams Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 6, 1919, in Lake Township of Allen County to Louis A. and Gertrude M. (Van Meter) Wisel.
She married Mark D. Colchin Sr. on September 14, 1942; he passed away on July 27, 1982.
She is survived by her six children, Mark David (Susan) Colchin Jr. of Merritt Island, Florida,; Rev. Father Stephen E. Colchin of New Haven; Michael P. (Cheryl) Colchin of Lakewood, Colorado; Rose M. (Ronald) Schnepp of Decatur; Fredrick J. (Ann) Colchin of Merritt Island, Florida; and Paul L. (Mary Ann) Colchin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother, Robert L. (Joan) Wisel of Roanoke, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and its Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Adams County Nurses' Association.
Hillis was a mother, homemaker, and registered nurse. She worked as a nurse for Adams County Memorial Hospital in the obstetrics department for 38 years.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
A 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. The main celebrant will be her son, Rev. Father Stephen E. Colchin, with Rev. Father David Voors concelebrating.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
Memorials may be made to the Building On Our Heritage Fund at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church or to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery's Perpetual Care Fund.
