Helen R. Schaffer

    Helen Ruth Schaffer, 81, a longtime resident of Decatur, died at 1:40 p.m. Saturday in Markle Health and Rehabilitation, where she had been a resident for 2.5 years.
    She was born on October 19, 1929 in Chalmers, Indiana, to Earl and Virginia Bryant Plumb.
    She married Charles S. Schaffer on March 25, 1950 in Decatur. He survives.
    She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur.
    Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Myron (Linda) Hamrick of Decatur; one granddaughter, Julie Yinger, wife of Rev. Dave Yinger of Terre Haute, Ohio; two grandsons, Michael Hamrick (and wife Melissa) and Myron C. Hamrick, both of Decatur; and four great-grandchildren: Justin, Ashley, Cameron, and Lathyn Hamrick.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with Chaplain Annette Baker officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
    Visiting hours are 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
    Preferred memorials are to First Baptist Church in Decatur, to Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Indiana at Berne, and for Alzheimer's Disease research.
