Helen B. Schnitz

    Helen B. Schnitz, 88, of Decatur, died at noon on Sunday in the nursing center at Woodcrest Retirement Community.
    She was born on July 29, 1923, in Huntington County to Mahlon D. and Mildred G. Beal Brown.
    She married Richard K. Schnitz on November 13, 1943, in Bluffton; he survives.
    She was the owner of Schnitz Accounting Service in Decatur from 1945 until retirement in 2001 and was also a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur.
    Other survivors are two sons, P. Daniel Schnitz (and wife Joyce) of Monroe and T. David Schnitz (and wife Sheila) of Decatur; one daughter, Ruth E. Gallogly of Decatur; three sisters, Doris Alexander of Franklin; Mrs. Jerry (Linda K.) Higgins of Plano, Texas; and Mrs. Philip (Judith) Hoopingarner of New Haven; three brothers, Marvin L. Brown of Valparaiso; Larry W. Brown (and wife Shirley) of Nineva, Indiana; and Carl E. Brown of Largo, Florida; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Robert Brown; two sisters, Maxine L. Moser and Bertha Jean Malson; and one grandson, Jeffrey Daniel Schnitz.
    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m.. Friday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home of Decatur, with Pastor Whitney West officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
    Visiting hours are noon-1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel (Porter Auditorium) at Woodcrest, 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, and 9-11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
    Preferred memorials are to First Baptist Church in Decatur or to the Heart Fund within the Adams County Community Foundation.
