Hazel M. Hammons

    Hazel M. Hammons, 93, Bluffton, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation.
    She was born Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1920, in Union City, the daughter of the late Francis M. and Daisy M. (Blankley) Birum. 
    She married Dale Hammons July 5, 1939; he passed away Dec. 25, 2000.
    Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Muncie, where she served as Deaconess and Stephen Minister. Following the movements of her son, Hazel also attended the First United Methodist Church in Decatur when she was a resident here from 2004-2009. She was a graduate of Union City High School Class of 1938.
   Hazel retired from Maxon Corporation in 1987 as an executive secretary after 35 years of service.
    Surviving are her son, Terry (Martha) Hammons of Bluffton; a grandson, Wayne D. Hammons of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a great-granddaughter, Amber Hammons of Cicero; a great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Millikan of Cicero; and several nieces and nephews.
    Preceding Hazel in death were a grandson, Danny Hammons, and two sisters, Evaline Yohler and Mary Frazier.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Wayne Steury officiating. Internment will follow at the Garden of Memory in Muncie.
    Friends will be received from 12-3 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
