Hazel Gerardot, 89, a resident of Decatur for 65 years, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday in The Village of Heritage nursing home at Monroeville.
She was born on December 12, 1920, in Salem, Illinois, to Etta Vaughn Beck.
She married Lawrence E. Gerardot on January 18, 1939, in St. Louis Catholic Church (Besancon); he passed away on April 15, 1997.
Hazel was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, loved to play euchre, and was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Sally A.) Schwehn of New Haven and Mrs. Charles (Mary L.) Jauregui of Decatur; three sons, Daniel L. Gerardot and Don J. Gerardot (and wife Diana) of Monroeville and Ed A. Gerardot of Mooresville, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, David Gerardot, who died in infancy in 1940; two grandchildren, David and Debbie Wiseman; one daughter-in-law, Alice Gerardot, in 2008; one great-grandson, Jacob Wasson; one great-grandaughter, Terra Beahrs; and one sister, Helen Eikleberry.
A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home's Jacobs Chapel at Monroeville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Rose Catholic Church, with Father Steven Colchin officiating.
Burial will be in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery (Besancon).
Visiting hours are 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Jacobs Chapel, with a rosary service at 4 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Masses at St. Rose Catholic Church, to the Emergency Medical Services unit at Monroeville, and to the Monroeville Fire Department.
