Harry M. Bowers

    Harry Martin Bowers, 94, Decatur, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Harry was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Kirkland Township, to the late Charles R. and Frieda (Ehlerding) Bowers.
    He married Virgene L. Bieberich March 18, 1941; she preceded him in death Nov. 23, 2008.
    Harry was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 43 and Monroe Lions Club. Harry owned Bowers Brothers Drainage and was a contractor for more than 50 years. He was a farmer and an auctioneer. Harry served in the United States Navy for four years as a Boatswains Mate 2nd class during WWII.
    Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla J. (Roger) Pyle of Rockford, Ohio and Bonnie J. (Steve) Johnson of Decatur; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil F. Bowers Sr.
    Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Wilton Hull officiating. Military Rites by American Legion Color Guard Post 43.
    Burial will be in Beery Cemetery.
    Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
    Preferred memorials are to American Legion Color Guard Post 43, Springhill Missionary Church or Zion Lutheran Church.
