Hankenson earns All-American status

    WICHITA, Ka. — Holly Hankenson, who will be a sophomore at Bellmont High School this fall, finished fifth in the nation, earning All-American status, in the USA Junior National Track and Field Heptathlon competition, which concluded Sunday.
    Hankenson qualified for the USA Junior Nationals by winning the Region 7 Heptathlon competition.
    Hankenson won the shot put and 800 sections of the Heptathlon, going a strong 2:24 in the final 800 event.
    On Sunday, she competed with her Fort Wayne Track Club relay team, which finished fourth in the 1600 event with a 3:55.
    The national meet was for those athletes who are 16 years old, or younger.
    Hankenson and her Bellmont volleyball teammates will open practice tonight at Bellmont. The Squaws are the defending 3A state champions.
