Hakes receives Hobey Baker Character Award

    Brian Hakes of Decatur has been named one of 24 hockey players in Indiana who are recipients of a Hobey Baker Character Award.
    The awards are presented by the Hobey Baker Award Foundation through the Indiana State High School Hockey Association (ISHSHA).
    Each indiana varsity hockey prorgram that is a member of the ISHSHA can recognize one member of its team who best exemplifies the characteristics of sportsmanship and character demonstrated by the legendary hockey player Hobey Baker, who played hockey at Princeton, died while serving as a fighter pilot in World War I.
    Hakes, who will be a senior at Bellmont High School, played for the North Side Redskins and was one of five players in the Fort Wayne league to receive the honor.
    Other players came from the Michiana, Illiana and Hoosier leagues in Indiana.
