GOP gets 3rd candidate for Recorder
Gerald M. (Jerry) Walker of Berne has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Adams County Recorder.
He is the third GOP candidate to announce for Recorder, joining Deb Stimpson and Jim Voglewede, both of Decatur, in the field.
Walker is currently serving as Monroe Township Trustee and previously had served as township trustee/assessor. He is employed with Yager Furniture of Berne, is pastor of Landmark Baptist Church, New Haven, and also serves on the Berne Tree Board.
He has served as treasurer of the Adams County Republican Party for almost a year, and prior to that had served as party secretary since 2007. He has been a precinct committeeman since 1994.
Walker and his wife Nancy are 24-year residents of Adams County and are the parents of a daughter, Charity.
In announcing his candidacy, Walker said he has had a lifelong love for history and the preservation of the present for reference in the future.
"This is a perfect fit to the position of county recorder, and I look forward to being of service to the people of Adams County," Walker said. "The office requires someone conscientious in work being performed properly and timely, concerned about those being served, and confidential in approach to some aspects of the office, and I believe these qualities suit me well for the office of recorder."
