Gertrude L. “Trudy” Monroe

    Gertrude L. “Trudy” Monroe, 92 of Bluffton, passed away at 12:02 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
    Trudy was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Bluffton to Charles and Thelma (Robison) Barnes.  She was a 1939 graduate of Bluffton High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bluffton.  Trudy has been a resident of Swiss Village in Berne since 2003.
    On July 8, 1939, in Bluffton, Trudy and Richard Monroe were married. They shared 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2000. 
    She was a dedicated mother to five children; Rebecca (Charles “Skeet”) Decker of Bluffton, Lucinda (Larry) Waters of Lafayette and Mitch (Kathy) Monroe of Decatur. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Monroe of Bluffton. 
    She is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Kay Monroe, a son, Dennis “Denny” Monroe, and two brothers Robert and Richard Barnes. 
    Funeral services to celebrate Trudy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton, with Pastor Les Cantrell officiating.
    Burial will follow in Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
    Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
