Gertrude E. Dickerson

    Gertrude E. Dickerson, 97, of Decatur, passed away at 5:46 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Gertrude was born on Tuesday, May 25, 1915, in New Orleans, La., to the late Louis G. and Lillian (Johnson) Webert.
    She married Glen Dickerson on October 10, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur; he passed away on February 19, 1982.
    Gertrude was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a former president of the Missionary Society, and instrumental in starting the Prayer Circle at the church. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Decatur, former secretary of the Decatur Women's Club, and a member of the Research Club in Decatur.
    Gertrude was proud of her collection of thimbles, which number approximately 250, and also enjoyed collecting postcards. Gertrude had worked for Graham Abstract Company and was a homemaker.
    Among survivors are two daughters, Becky (David) Creek of Elkhart and Betsy Dickerson of Decatur; son, Jon C. (Robbie) Dickerson of Dickinson, Texas; two grandchildren, Joel (Charity) Creek and Daniel (Amanda) Creek; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Katlyn, Benjamin, and Joshua Creek.
    Gertrued was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Webert.
    Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, and 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, also at the church, with Rev. Phil Phifer officiating.
    Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery.
    Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur; or Worship For Shut-Ins.
