Geraldine Townsend

July 5, 2013

Geraldine "Gerry" McKay Townsend, age 88, passed away July 2, 2013, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Gerry was born April 18, 1925, in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada, to Charles R. and Helen Orchard McKay.
Gerry was a member of Brookside Church in Fort Wayne and had worked as a dental assistant for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmorther, whose life revolved around her family, whom she loved dearly.
She, in the same manner as her mother Helen McKay, put her faith and trust in Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord. She always put everyone else before herself and lived and died a lady of virtue. Therefore, based upon the relationship she had with her Maker and Redeemer, she was ushered by angels into the eternal presence of the Shepherd and Bishop of her soul. No more pain, tears, heartache, or sorrow for all eternity. She now has a glorious body and is rejoicing in the presence of the King of kings and Lord of lords forever. Her family says, "See you later, Mom. Praise be to the blessed and holy name of Jesus."
Among survivors are her husband of 68 years, Estle Townsend, Sr.; four children, Estle V. (Sheila) Townsend, Jr., and Gregory R. (Brenda) Townsend, both of Decatur; Becky Anderson of Clemmons, N.C., and Barbara (Don) Raudenbush of Jupiter, Fla.; brother, David McKay of Presque Isle, Me.; sister, Barbara (Watson) Peterson of Fort Myers, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepgreat-grandchild; and stepgreat-great-grandchild.
Gerry was preceded in death by her sister, Leah Blackie of Aurora, Ontario, Canada.
A private family gathering was held at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Kings Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill, Me.
Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Homestead Road, Fort Wayne.
