Gerald M. Kohne

    Gerald Michael “Mike” Kohne, 77, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    He was born on April 2, 1936, to the late Dr. Gerald Joseph and Margaret Elizabeth (Sheley) Kohne.
    Mike married Bonnie L. Hake on September 11, 1965; she survives in Decatur.
    He was the owner of Decatur Package Liquors for 30 years and he also worked for nine years at the Bob Heller Insurance Agency.
    He was a 1954 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School and a 1962 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He served his country in the United States Army. Mike was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 993, and the Moose Lodge 1311.
    Among survivors are a son Gerald Matthew “Matt” (Renee) Kohne of Decatur; three daughters, Nancy S. (Matthew) Bane of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Sara E. Kohne of Greenwood, Ind; and Andrea R. (Jon) Weiss of Granger, Ind.; brother, Anthony E. Kohne of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Marjorie A. DeRosa of Angola and Kathleen S. (David) Smith of Old Saybrook, Conn.; five grandchildren, Heather (Zachary) Stoppenhagen, Gerald Ryan Kohne, Lillian S. Weiss, Samuel T. Weiss, and Evelyn R. Weiss.
    Mike was preceded in death by a son, Mark Joseph Kohne, and two sisters, Dorothy J. Kohne and Elizabeth Kohne.
    Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. Mary's Parish Hall.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating.
    Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
    Preferred memorials are to St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Joseph Catholic School, or to Masses.
