Geneva wrestles with IDEM mandates

November 6, 2013

Kevin Green, a representative of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, addressed the Geneva Town Council at Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting concerning recommendations for altering processes and meeting state regulations at the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
Green informed council that new regulations will require wastewater treatment plants to remove more phosphorus from effluent than previously mandated, and discussed different methods of precipitating the element from the liquid. The desired results may be achieved either through a chemical or a biological process, Green stated, but his recommendation is for the town to consider the biological option.
