Geneva Town Council softens golf cart, ATV ordinance

August 6, 2014

The Geneva Town Hall was filled beyond capacity Tuesday night as residents turned out in large numbers to request changes to the town’s golf cart and all-terrain vehicle ordinance.
In deference to the crowd on hand for the monthly meeting, Geneva Town Council President Dick Clutter altered the agenda and put the proposed ordinance at the top of the list of items for discussion. Town Marshal Rob Johnson, the first to address council on the matter, diffused most of the objections raised by those in opposition to parts of the ordinance by summarizing their complaints and agreeing with their validity.
Noting “Facebook has been lighting up like crazy” with commentary surrounding various sections of the proposed ordinance, Johnson said there are four areas residents have been concerned about in relation to the measure, which was originally drafted to cover golf carts driven on town streets  but has since been expanded to cover ATV’s as well. It was obvious Johnson had spent considerable time talking to residents about their complaints surrounding the measure.
