Geneva man dies of July crash injuries

September 5, 2012

A Geneva man, Harold J. Bailey, 50, died at 10:37 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, as a result of injuries he suffered during a 1:51 p.m. accident on July 13 in Wells County.
The Wells County Sheriff's Department said Bailey was eastbound in the 4900 east block of S.R. 124 when a 2004 Chevrolet truck driven by Jennifer R. Owens, 29, Arcanum, Ohio, allegedly crossed the center line and collided with the Bailey vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to spin off the road and they ended up in a nearby yard.
The Allen County Coroner's office has jurisdiction in the case since Bailey died in that county and listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma. A Wells County Sheriff's Department report said Bailey suffered internal head injuries in the crash.
The police report also noted Bailey was airlifted directly to Parkview after Bluffton firefighters were summoned to the scene to extricate him from his vehicle. Damage to the Bailey vehicle was severe enough that authorities could not tell whether or not Bailey was wearing a seat belt.
Owens was taken by Wells County EMS to Bluffton Regional Medical Center following the crash.
Funeral services for Bailey were held this morning at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
