In a special meeting of the Geneva Town Council on Wednesday, sealed bids for the town's wastewater improvement project were opened and then taken under advisement.
The project is made possible through a $600,000 Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) grant that was awarded to the town in May. The grant requires the town to match $200,000, bringing the project total, which includes the preliminary engineering report, to more than $800,000.
The project will involve making infrastructure improvements to the town's wastewater system by realigning and replacing sewer lines, replacing the Red Gold force main and making upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant, including improving sewage handling capabilities.
Four bids were received, ranging from $551,818 to $666,824.06. The bidders were Bruns Building of Ohio, Fleming Excavating of Decatur, Lica Construction of Berne and R.E. Crosby of Fort Wayne.
Commonwealth Engineers consultants are expected to review the bids, after which it will make a recommendation to approve the bid and award the contract at the regularly scheduled Geneva Town Council meeting on Tuesday.
