The Geneva Town Council made appointments for 2011 during its year-end meeting last Thursday. The council also welcomed its newest member, Doug Milligan, who ran unopposed in the November election.
Milligan, who has served as Geneva's clerk-treasurer and also as the town manager, replaces Mike Schwartz, who served on the council for 12 years.
Schwartz thanked his fellow councilmen, saying, "It's been a joy and a privilege to serve on the council with you." He added, "It's been an experience I will remember for the rest of my life; something I will cherish forever."
Schwartz also acknowledged Rosie Puterbaugh, Clerk-Treasurer Bill Warren and Town Attorney Dave Baumgartner for their contributions to the council. "What a great team," said Schwartz.
Councilman Dick Clutter said he appreciated working with Schwartz and that he is also looking forward to working with Milligan.
Milligan said he has enjoyed working for the town of Geneva in various capacities, adding, "I'm looking forward to being a council member."
Clutter was again appointed as council president. Jim Timmons was reappointed as vice-president after being sworn in for another four-year term on the council.
John Patch was reappointed as the Geneva fire hief. Gabe Schwartz will stay on as an assistant fire chief, and Sam Bisel will replace Art Booth as the other assistant fire chief. The Geneva Police Department will remain unchanged in 2011 with Rob Johnson and Bradly Schwartz as marshall and chief deputy marshall, respectively.
Also reappointed were Puterbaugh as deputy clerk and Baumgartner as town attorney.
The Geneva Planning Commission includes Scott Wilkins, Donald Graber, Timmons, Milligan, Clutter, Arlen Mitchel, Andrew Briggs, Jim Fosnaugh and John Pyle. Additionally, Mitchel and Pyle were reappointed to the Geneva Board of Zoning Appeals, and Milligan was reappointed to another 12-month term on the Adams County Economic Development Corp.
Sarah Ellenberger was reappointed to the park board from a temporary position in 2010 to a permanent position in 2011. Calvin Morgan was also reappointed to the park board. Other members of the board include Jason Wilkie, Skeeter Shephard and Russ Flueckinger.
Tree board members for 2011 include James Briggs, Marci Bodle, Ken Brunswick, Puterbaugh, Curt Chaffins and Dave Cramer. Milligan and Schwartz will be 2011 representatives for South Adams Trails Inc. (SATI).
