Geimer, Graphics kayo Senior foes

    Tournament action in both the Decatur Girls Junior and Senior Leagues began Monday night with a pair of games in both divisions.
    In the Senior League, Geimer's Construction belted out 13 hits including a two-run homer by Taylor Kuhnle in the fifth and they handed Barker and Sons a 19-1 defeat while in the other contest, Mind's Eye Graphics also recorded a double-digit victory taking out the First Bank of Berne by an 18-8 count.
    Kuhnle had three hits and four RBIs to pace the Builders while Mackenzie Funk slapped a pair of doubles and both Macy Phegley and Kayla Douglas had two singles apiece. Elizabeth Heck singled twice for two of the three Barker hits in the game.
    Funk threw the first three innings for Geimer's while Sadie Alberson finish the final three frames. They combined for five strikeouts. Casey Fee fanned seven for Barker's in going the distance. Geimer's led by a 4-1 score going into the fifth when they erupted for six runs and then added nine more in the top of the sixth.
    In the Junior League contests, German Mutual Insurance captured a 12-1 triumph over Decatur Dental while Hip Hop survived an 8-5 battle with First Class Hoosier Realty.
    Tournament action continues tonight with Geimer's and Mind's Eye playing at 6:30 p.m. in the winner's bracket while at 8:15 p.m., Barker and Sons and the Bank of Berne will play in the loser's bracket of the double-elimination event.
    Junior League play tonight has the final two games of the opening round with Anytime Fitness and West End going at it at 6 p.m. followed by Eichhorn's Jewelry and Rorick's Electric at 8 p.m.
    Only details of the Geimer's-Barker game were received at the Democrat today.
    In a regular season game played in Junior League last week turned in today, West End topped German Mutual Insurance 14-7.
    Haley Stinson got all nine outs in her three innings of work via strikeouts (12 year-old pitchers in Junior play are allowed to only pitch three innings per game per a new league rule this year). Hitting doubles for the winners were Skylynn Celange, Cierra Marbaugh, Stinson, and Makayla Bailey. Marbaugh and Stinson each had three hits and three RBIs while Megan Tracey had two hits and RBIs. Emma Ainsworth had the only RBI of the game for German Mutual Insurance.
    Emily Fuelling and Jillian Roth both pitched one inning for West End while throwing for GMI were Ryann Velez, Amber Dahlstrom, and Carrington Bultemeier.
