Friedt, a fifth-grader at Bellmont Middle School, was the only state champ for the DWC. Jon Ruble, a sixth-grade student at St. Joe School in Decatur, earned third place at 90 pounds in the Novice Division.
Ruble was in one of the largest classes at Ben Davis with 30 competitors. He had a poor draw, losing to eventual champion Peyton Pruett of Center Grove 9-2 in the opening round.
All Ruble did after that was win seven straight matches, all by fall, pinning Tanner Stone of Evansville for third place in 1:45.
Decatur had four other competitors in the field: Bantam Chandler Thomas, Intermediate Carter Thomas, Intermediate Isaac Ruble and Intermediate Remington Bultemeier.
Bultemeier recorded two wins and had two losses at 75 pounds, including a setback to eventual champ Diesel Duncan.
