In all, Bellmont will be sending four girls to the state finals on Friday night being represented by junior Alexis Harvey, sophomores Holly and Bailee Hankenson, and freshman Allyson Norby while on Saturday night, Adams Central senior Troy Tonner will toe the line in the discus competition in the boys state competition.
Harvey has the best seed position of Adams County athletes with a number three place in the 200 dash out of 27 participants. She finished fourth in this event last year at Bloomington as a sophomore.
Holly Hankenson has a pair of lofty seeds as well as she'll be the busiest runner on the night for the Squaws. She is seeded seventh out of 27 in the 100 high hurdles and is one spot better in sixth in the 300 high sticks among 27 runners.
Holly joins twin sister Bailee, Harvey, and Norby on the 4 x 400 relay teams as well and they're seeded eighth out of 27 teams.
Tonner, who has dominated both the discus and shot put competition in meets this year, threw 165'10 in the regional meet last week at Northrop in the discus to qualify for the state meet. He's seeded ninth.
"Our goal is to go down and try to score in all four of our events. That's a lofty goal, but one that I believe is definitely possible for our girls," noted Bellmont coach Carl Risch.
Risch has said all season long that while the win-loss record for Bellmont might not have been as strong as they would have liked, he's excited about their chances at the state where a couple of strong individual performances can propel a team to among the leaders at the state championship meet.
