Nearly .25 inches of freezing rain and light snow moved into the area during the overnight hours, coupled with a low temperature around 20 degrees, making for poor road conditions throughout Adams County this morning. The icy roads resulted in all three county schools closing for the day, as well as those in neighboring Jay and Blackford counties in Indiana and Van Wert and Mercer counties in Ohio. Schools in Allen and Wells Counties remained on a two-hour delay at press time this morning
Main roads this morning were spotty but travel seemed to be moving fairly well. Side streets and county roads, however, were a different story altogether. A layer of ice coated the roadways making maneuvering corners and stop signs a test of nerves in some cases.
Today’s forecast is expected to fare a little better, with only a 10 percent chance of precipitation and a high of 28 degrees with a low of 17 degrees.
Highs for the week are expected to hover around the 25 degree mark while lows will drop down to the teens and an expected low in the single digits Thursday.
