Frederick H. Blazer

    Frederick H. Blazer, 96, of Decatur, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center.
    Fred was born on May 14, 1915, in Fort Wayne to Frederick E. and Lena M. (Harshman) Blazer.
    On January 6, 1968, he married Ruby V. (Ladd) Rambo.
    Fred worked for American Hoist and also worked as a janitor for North Adams Community Schools.
    Fred served his country during World War II in Japan and Germany and had two tours of duty in the Korean War, receiving several awards: Silver Battle Star, Korean Service Medal, two OS bars, American Defense Service Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, one service stripe, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Occupation Medal (Japan), and American Campaign Medal.
    He was a life member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur, of which he was post commander in 1984, and a member of Moose Lodge 1311 in Decatur.
    He loved the Lord and was also one of his soldiers.
    Survivors include his wife, Ruby V. Rambo Blazer of Decatur; three stepsons, Richard L. Rambo of Decatur; Phillip D. Rambo of Bloomington, Indiana; and Jerry L. Rambo of Decatur; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Thomas (Janet S.) Lough of Craigville; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Wolfe and Lucy Parker, and a brother, Clyde Brandyberry.
    Visitation is 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to services.
    Funeral services will be on Friday, October 14, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Rex Grant will be officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
    Memorials are to the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeast Indiana.
