Francis X. Miller

    Francis Xavier “Frank” Miller, 78, of Decatur, passed away from pancreatic cancer in his residence at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
    He was born on February 22, 1933 in Fort Wayne, the son of Carl and Minnie (Fuller) Miller.
    He married Madeleine M. Kelsey on June 15, 1957.
    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Madeleine M. Miller of Decatur; four sons: Mike (Alicia) Miller of Decatur, Dan (Shelly) Miller of Fort Wayne, Dave (Kathy) Miller of Monroe, and Jim (Jade) Miller of Decatur; 11 grandchildren: Ryan, Daniele, Sarah, Rachel, Melinda, Casey, Michael, Mark, Quentin, Addison, and Brooklynn Rose.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Miller.
    Frank was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and Moose Lodge 1311, both in Decatur.
    He was a 1951 graduate of Central High School in Fort Wayne and also attended Purdue University. He was a graduate of General Electric's apprentice training program and G.E.’s manufacturing three-year program. He was a member of the G.E. Alumni Association and the G.E. Quarter-Century Club.
    He worked as the supervisor of maintenance and facilities at the G.E. plant in Decatur and retired after 38 years of service, but remained there for an additional 20 years as a contract employee.
    Frank also taught math and electrical classes at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne.
    He dearly loved his wife of 53 years, his four sons, his four daughters-in-law, and his 11 grandchildren. He enjoyed travel, the lake, boating, camping, and dancing to the music of Spike and The Bulldogs.
    Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
    A 9:50 a.m. prayer service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father David Voors.
    Burial will take place in Decatur Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Neil Keller, Ed Castleman, Larry Reinking, Bill Crone, Tom Stuber, and Jerry Sielschott, with Jerry Calkins as an honorary pallbearer.
    Memorials may be made to The Strickler Cancer Institute at Adams Memorial Hospital.
