In one of the strongest soccer conferences in the state, Bellmont's players earned five slots overall, including a first-team position for junior forward Alex Hammond as the Northeast Hoosier Conference announced it's All-NHC team this week.
"It was great to get five all-conference awards. The other three Bellmont players who got votes were all very close to making it too," said BHS coach Bill Meyer.
Taking second- team honors for BHS were midfielder Dan Worth, a junior, and defender A.J. McCoy. Goalie Corey Marbach and midfielder Jon Skaggs were both given honorable-mention.
League champ Homestead, which went 7-0 in the league, put three players on the first team: Goalie Austin Williams, Defender Kyle Green and midfielder Mike Wendlandt. Carroll (6-1) had six on the first team: goalie Cody Schweitzer, defenders Nathan Byrd and Ian Jefferies, midfielders Jason Walcutt and and Corey Tom, and forward Colson Wagoner.
"We felt that Tyler Odle, without a double, should be an all-conference player," said Meyer. "Unfortunately, Carroll and Homestead had mostly seniors playing defense."
Meyer listed seven seniors the Braves will be losing: Mikey Garza, Tim Barr, AJ Mccoy, Jon Skaggs, Corey Marbach, Ali Akmoradov, and Tyler Odle.
"Great players, great leaders, and great teammates," said Meyer of his seniors.
DeKalb's Chase Lockwood was a first team defender as was Clint Hoffer of East Noble. DeKalb's Tyler Secrist were first-team midfielders and Columbia City's Devin Rice was a first-team forward. Alex Williams of DeKalb was a first-team forward.
